26 Avenue SW Construction: What's Coming this Fall

The City of Calgary has shared two construction notices for the 26 Avenue S.W. Improvements project. Here is what they mean for our neighbourhood.

Utility upgrades, 14 Street to 15 Street SW

• Underground utility work is due to start on Monday, September 28, 2026, and is expected to take 10 to 14 days, weather permitting.

• 26 Avenue SW will be fully closed between 14 Street and 15 Street, with signed detours. One lane of 14 Street SW will also be closed for about 3 to 4 days, with two-way traffic maintained.

• Some properties along 25 Avenue and 26 Avenue between 19 Street and 14 Street, and along 14A Street, may have temporary changes to their water service. Affected properties will receive at least 48 hours' notice of any planned shut-off.

• Once the roadway work in this section is complete, vehicles will no longer be able to enter 14A Street from 26 Avenue, and vehicles leaving 14A Street will only be able to turn west onto 26 Avenue.

Mobility upgrades, 29 Street to 33 Street SW

• Work is expected to begin the week of October 5, 2026 and take about three to four weeks.

• Stage 1 is sidewalk, transit stop and streetlight work, one side of the street at a time, for 2 to 3 weeks. Transit stops may be temporarily relocated.

• Stage 2 is road repaving and bike lane medians, for 6 to 10 days. 26 Avenue will be closed between 29 Street and 33 Street, with signed detours.

Parking

• On-street parking within the work areas will not be available during construction.

• The City is permanently removing on-street parking on the south side of 26 Avenue from 37 Street to 25 Street, and on the north side from 22 Street to 14A Street, block by block as the work is completed.

Work hours

Crews may work up to seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with occasional evening work until 10 p.m.
