26 Avenue SW construction: 14 Street to 16 Street starts October 5

The City of Calgary has shared two new construction notices for the 26 Avenue S.W. Improvements project. Here is what they mean for our neighbourhood.

Mobility upgrades, 14 Street to 16 Street SW

• Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5, 2026, and take approximately 4 to 5 weeks (weather and site conditions permitting).

• Crews will reconstruct and repave the roadway, install a new multi-use pathway on the north side of the road, and upgrade streetlights.

• 26 Avenue SW will be fully closed between 14 Street and 16 Street, with signed detours.

• The sidewalk on the north side will be closed while the new pathway is installed. The south side sidewalk will remain open, with signed pedestrian detours.

• Front door access to homes and businesses will be maintained. Driveway access will vary by property, and if your driveway access will be affected, you will receive at least 48 hours' notice.

• Expect increased noise, dust and vibration, and some tree pruning may be required. Crews may work up to seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with occasional evening work until 10 p.m.

Changes to vehicle access on 14A Street SW

The intersection of 26 Avenue and 14A Street is being redesigned, with a raised crosswalk on the northwest side and a curb extension on the northeast side. Once construction between 14 Street and 16 Street is complete, expected in October 2026:

• Vehicles will no longer be able to enter 14A Street SW from 26 Avenue SW.

• Vehicles leaving 14A Street SW will only be able to turn right onto westbound 26 Avenue SW. Left turns onto eastbound 26 Avenue SW will no longer be permitted.

Residents will still be able to access 14A Street from 25 Avenue SW, drive in both directions on 14A Street, and park on the west side of 14A Street.

Parking

• On-street parking on 26 Avenue within the work area will not be available during construction.

• After construction, on-street parking will be permanently removed from the north side of 26 Avenue and reinstated on the south side.
